Happy Labor Day!

Happy Labor Day! This is always such a lovely weekend to live in metro Atlanta! From the DragonCon Parade downtown to the Decatur Book Festival, from Atlanta Black Pride to the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Whether it's looking for good food (like the Blues and BBQ event at Park Tavern) or beautiful art (like the Marietta Art in the Park Festival), we are surrounded by wonderful, diverse events that allow us to enjoy our communities and celebrate the unofficial end of summer.

We must remember, though, that this holiday exists to honor the amazing work and sacrifice of those who advocate for working people. If not for the Labor movement, we wouldn't enjoy some of the things we now take for granted like 40 hour work weeks, child labor laws or workplace safety requirements. The work of the Labor movement didn't end 100 years ago - there's still work to be done to ensure fair wages, equitable hiring practices, safe work conditions and access to benefits. I'm proud to continue fighting for working families in Georgia and to have the endorsement of leaders for these efforts, like the AFL-CIOUnited Campus Workers of Georgia and the North Georgia-Atlanta Labor Council.

Whatever your plans this weekend, please be safe and enjoy!

Voting absentee? Or perhaps you're the parent of a college student who needs to vote absentee? Request your absentee ballot now! You can request your absentee ballot online, by email, by fax, by mail, or in person.

If you request your absentee ballot online, you still need to print it out, sign it, and then upload it. You also need to include your driver's license number or state ID number. If you don't have either, you can provide a copy of another form of ID with your application, including a US passport, military ID, voter ID card, utility bill, bank statement, government-issued check, or other government document.

You can track your absentee ballot by signing up for a service called BallotTrax
